Symbols of Sustainable Love: Designer Hearts by Aufschnitt Berlin

A special Story with Heart

Ten years ago, Carola walked into the Aufschnitt Berlin store with a broken heart. To comfort herself, she treated herself to a large, soft pink heart pillow with beautifully embroidered details. Today, her heartbreak has healed, but after years of cuddling, her beloved plush heart needed a refresh – the seam of an aortic branch had come undone! In our workshop, we carefully restored it to its original beauty – a testament that true love is timeless, sustainable, and deserves care.

Symbole für nachhaltige Liebe

In February, hearts are everywhere – on cards, in shop windows, and sometimes even right before your eyes. Valentine’s Day is all about love, affection, and showing appreciation. But why always chocolates or roses? If you’re looking for a gift that expresses love in a truly lasting way, we have the perfect suggestion: the handcrafted plush hearts from Aufschnitt Berlin!

These beautifully plush yet velvety soft heart pillows make a statement on any sofa or bed, available in elegant cream, black, and striking metallic tones such as brass, cool blue, and deep red. Their organic shape is breathtaking, with the aorta and vena cava playfully intertwining. Delicate coronary vessels are abstractly embroidered on the exceptionally soft velvet, either as silver or gold piping or as intricately branched, two-tone stitching. This combination of elegance and expert craftsmanship makes the heart pillow a true symbol of deep affection and love.

When Fashion Meets Interior Design

Originally, the heart pillow was part of Aufschnitt Berlin’s organ collection. However, due to its overwhelming popularity, it quickly evolved into a standalone series. With the "Heart to Heart" project at Berlin Design Week 2022, Aufschnitt Berlin opened its showroom to the world of fashion, showcasing international designers and their collections at the Boxhagener Straße location. In collaboration with these designers, unique reinterpretations of the heart pillow were created. You can read more about the results of this creative exchange here. These exceptional designer pieces merge art, design, and anatomy in a truly unique way. One standout piece is the Noctivagus Cordis heart pillow – a bold statement for design lovers. The “wandering heart” is inspired by the wild 1920s in Berlin and Paris, celebrating the beauty of human anatomy. As a gift, this elegant designer piece is an exclusive declaration of love – not just for Valentine’s Day. But where does this tradition of love and Valentine’s Day come from?

The Day for Lovers

Valentine’s Day has its roots in ancient Rome. Saint Valentine of Terni, a priest, is said to have secretly married couples in the 3rd century despite an imperial ban. As a token of love and unity, he gifted the newlyweds flowers from his garden. By the Middle Ages, February 14th had become the day of love, especially in England and France. Poets like Geoffrey Chaucer helped spread the tradition through their romantic verses. Today, Valentine’s Day is celebrated worldwide, whether through small gifts, romantic gestures, or simply spending time together. But what if we extended the meaning of love and care beyond just one day?

Love for Life: Organ Donation

Valentine’s Day is also the perfect moment to reflect on sustainable love and compassion. What could be more loving and generous than giving someone a second chance at life? An organ donor card is a small document with an enormous impact—it allows you to save lives and bring hope, even after you're gone. Sadly, many people spend years waiting for a life-saving organ. By carrying a donor card, you can help bridge this gap and make a powerful statement of humanity. Organ donor cards are easy to obtain online or at pharmacies.

Show Your Heart – Not Just on Valentine’s Day

Whether through a handcrafted plush heart from Aufschnitt Berlin or an organ donor card, love takes many forms. Let’s come together to make a statement – for creativity, life, and humanity.
