| Think sharply, act sustainably – our cooperation with Pfefferhaus Berlin When packaging becomes part of a circular economy Imagine this: A box arrives brimming with fiery hot sauce and spicy chili products from Pfefferhaus Berlin – Germany's oldest specialty shop for chili and spice sauces. It's unpacked, the bottles and jars find their place – and the box? It sets off on its journey to our deli counter in Berlin. Because that's exactly what we're doing now: We're rescuing these cardboard boxes from the bin and sending our textiles, cushions, and home accessories out to you in them. Less waste, more purpose – and a small Berlin circular economy miracle. From sharp to soft, so to speak. Two Berlin originals – one idea Pfefferhaus Berlin is no ordinary shop. As the oldest retailer of chili products, spice sauces and hot sauces in Germany, Pfefferhaus has a long history – and just as long, a clear commitment to quality and responsibility. We at Aufschnitt know that feeling: taking things seriously that others don't care about. Making products that aren't thrown away after one season. And now, also: not throwing away cardboard boxes, but sending them on. Together we developed a simple but effective solution: → Pfefferhaus receives its chili and hot sauce products in cardboard boxes. → We'll take these boxes – before they end up in the trash. → Our textile objects will thus travel to you. → One box, two lives. Zero waste. This is circular economy on a small scale in Berlin – not greenwashing, but real everyday life in our studio. Why we do this (and not just since yesterday) At our deli, we don't see sustainability as a trend, but as a craft. Our products are designed to last for decades – not just one season. The proof? A long-time customer wrote to us: „Fourteen years ago, I gave my then-partner a beanbag chair from Aufschnitt for his 30th birthday. Today he is 44 – and the beanbag chair still attends every party.“ For us, this is sustainability in practice: products that truly accompany us through life. And packaging that isn't simply thrown away. Our next goal: to get out of plastic The cardboard partnership is just the beginning. We are currently working on replacing all plastic materials in our packaging with sustainable alternatives. Our goal is clear: completely plastic-free. This aligns perfectly with our Cradle-to-Cradle philosophy: materials should not only be recycled, but kept in genuine cycles. Cardboard belongs in the biological cycle – compostable, renewable, and honest. Products that don't need to be thrown away The most sustainable product is the one that never ends up in the trash. That's why we've been offering a repair and refill service for our beanbag chairs and cushions for years. Do you have a cold cut that needs a little TLC? Bring it by or get in touch with us – we'll take care of it. Take a look at our textile objects made in Berlin – handcrafted, durable, with character. Join in – in your own way You can become part of this small Berlin circular economy revolution. Here's how: → Buy consciously – choose products that last longer than one season. → Support Berlin brands that take a stand. → Ask about Repair & Refill – we're happy to help. → Share this post if it means something to you. From Pfefferhaus Berlin we learn: Passion and conviction are not mutually exclusive. And from us? Sometimes a cardboard box is all it takes to change things. ![]() |
