Soft Giant with Aufschnitt Berlin and Werkbande

Aufschnitt Berlin welcomes a new member to the family: the Soft Giant.

This monumental cuddly creature emerged from an intense creative process—hand-sewn, filled, shaped—always accompanied by the central question: How much softness can a space handle?

With a wingspan of over seven meters, the Soft Giant sets not only fabric but also posture in motion. Designed by Silvia Wald and realized in collaboration with Werkbande, this object unites textile craftsmanship with installation-like power. It invites touch, wonder, and interaction.

Production with attitude

We believe in transparency – not only in the design process, but also in production. That's why we're documenting the creation of the Soft Giant from the initial design to the final stitch. In our upcoming making-of video on YouTube, we'll open doors, show intermediate steps, offer insights into textile challenges, and demonstrate that true handcraftsmanship requires time, dedication – and many meters of fabric.

The blog will be updated regularly as new stages are completed. The series begins with cutting, continues with sewing and shaping, and concludes with transport and presentation at the Berlin Design Week 2025 exhibition.
